First, a poem by #TTCcafe member, Sandra Levy
Through The Flames
We’ve all have a time
When we’re filled with pain.
We don’t understand,
But we brave the flames.
We stumble, we strive,
We fight our way through.
We don’t know how we did it,
But we did what we had to do.
To make it and pass the test
Of our souls, ourselves, and our confidence.
It’s a real trial by fire-
We’ve won with a clear conscience.
Today’s poem comes from Sandry Levy. She found the poem when cleaning her place then emailed it to me. And here’s the kicker, she actually wrote the poem in 1983. How awesome is that!? Thanks so much Sandra for sending it in!

Today on the show with me is Jennifer Fitzgerald to talk about Policy Genius. She’s going to share how she started the company and then she answers a series of hard-pressed questions about insurance.
I really appreciate Jennifer for taking the time to talk with us. She really opens up and is extremely transparent about why she made the leap from corporate life and into the start-up world.
Also, insurance is something I personally ignored for the greater part of my life. Actually, I don’t think I had insurance from the time I was 18-22. That’s four years of not having any insurance and thankfully I was able to get insurance in my mid-20s or otherwise I’d have some large medical bills to take care of. I won’t bore you with the whole story, but let’s just say that racing triathlon on an extremely competitive level took my body through the ringer and I ended up in a lot of doctors ‘offices.
I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so health insurance has become a priority in my family.
Other than health insurance, I love the idea of being covered and Jennifer shares her expertise on just what type of insurance a change-maker might need and what insurance may be a waste of money.
I highly suggest you check out Policy Genius because it’s free to check out and find a great deal on insurance that you actually need.
On the call Jennifer and I talk about:
- The thought process behind leaving the corporate world for a start-up venture
- How to use language that connects to your audience, especially how to bypass lawyer jargon
- The Who, What, Where, When and Why of Insurance for Change-Makers

And no, I am not getting paid to say that. I believe in being transparent with sponsors of the show. If someone is paying me to be a sponsor, there are two things I require:
1. I have to believe in the mission of the company and it has to be doing something that has intense purpose to create a better world.
2. I have to tell you all that they are a sponsor.
All right, enough about money talk. I hope you enjoy this episode with Jennifer from Policy Genius.
